Background

Nearmap is an ambitious scale up working in the aerial imaging, intelligence and diagnostic space across Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada.

Nearmap's platform comes from building proprietary cameras, and capturing high-resolution imagery in flyovers. Their high-tech platform then overlays AI-derived insights that insurance companies, commercial enterprises and government organisations utilise to solve complex issues.

From assessing damage caused by fallen trees, measuring roofs remotely, to predicting wildfire risks with infrared technology, their solutions enable customers to visualise what typically remains unseen.

Challenge

Following a recent private equity acquisition, the team reached out to DesignStudio to help develop and mature their brand for their next stage of growth and reflect their ambition as leaders in the space.

Our task was to evolve Nearmap’s brand identity to reflect their new vision and move them forward as a digitally-native brand with their customers at its core. An identity that heroes their beautiful imagery as well as their people, and remains hardworking in the small details.

Brand Expression

Nearmap’s high-quality digital product needed a distinct and contemporary look and feel to match. Signifying their new digital evolution, we uplifted their brand blue and introduced a bold and simple logo to establish themselves with confidence.

We designed Nearmap’s visual identity to embody curiosity and clarity. To ensure brand flexibility, we introduced two key graphic elements: a grid pattern, emphasising the meticulousness of their data-driven products, and striking blue textures inspired by their imaging technology and the exploratory nature of their customers.In layouts, we balanced colour with clean graphic treatments, allowing the aerial imagery, their most powerful asset, to take the center stage. Typography set in the serif typeface, Nib, add a layer of warmth and sophistication, ensuring the brand assets work cohesively while standing out with a contemporary spirit.

The rebrand also included a set of pictograms and motion language to present information and content with dynamism, allowing them to pull core details and information into focus.

Collaboration

In partnership with Nearmap, DesignStudio collaborated closely with their in-house team at their offices to develop a robust digital UI system that cultivated the brand's essence of curiosity and clarity.

Together, we crafted a simplified look and feel throughout their website while also highlighting unique, distinctive moments to enhance both the brand and digital experience.

Results

Innovation and partnership has been central to the ethos of Nearmap. It was important to highlight a real understanding of both the people, their insights, and the remarkable technology behind it. The new brand identity marks a key evolution for their team, ensuring to represent their legacy as well as giving them the momentum for their next steps ahead.
