Background

Remote is on a mission to redefine the future of work. They eliminate the barriers to international hiring so great people can work remotely for great companies, no matter where those people are.

Challenge

Even before the global pandemic, Remote was gaining momentum; supporting employers in their hiring and enabling people to grow in their careers whilst also balancing the things that matter most to them in their lives. However, achieving their mission to redefine the future of work came with unique challenges. In particular, how to bring everyone together across different cultures and environments and onto an equal playing field. DesignStudio was tasked with helping Remote take the bold leap to 'level up’ their brand.

Brand Strategy

We gave Remote the brand role of ‘Culture Architects’ within our strategy. We wanted to capture their ambition for transcending borders, seamlessly weaving and connecting cultures. We created a blueprint of the globe, which became their own architecture framework, and from this developed a bold visual language inspired by textures, patterns and shapes from around the world. This reflected their welcoming and inclusive approach, as well as conveying global reach and the ability to ‘level up’ both employees and employers.

Brand Expression

Our creative idea ‘Reach out’ communicates a human-first approach. It emphasises the importance of the small moments which matter, through to people’s global impact on the world.

This concept informed our logo, which is made up of a symbolic ‘R’ crafted to represent the movement of people getting closer and growing further. Our logo literally ‘reaches out’, while the smooth circular strokes nod to the circular language of the globe.

The visual language is based on the framework of the globe, creating ownable assets and graphic shapes to represent the coming together of people from around the world. This is complemented by 4 dynamic rotational motion behaviours which are inspired by orbits, gravity and the Earth’s tilt.

We designed branded objects to physically bring people together. From fabrics with our Remote textures which can be used for home textiles to mugs, notebooks and branded apparel, everyone can feel part of the Remote culture, no matter where in the world they’re working.

Impact

The Remote rebrand launched in January 2022. Three months later, Remote secured $300 million in Series C funding, taking the brand’s value to almost $3 billion and making it the fastest-growing employer of record company.
